The Great Concert Weekend Part 1

OK, so I'm a terrible blogger, but I'm coming back. Anyways, as previously mentioned, my WDUB cohort Jon G and are in the midst of seeing both the Long Winters and Sufjan Stevens this weekend in Cincinnati. Here is Part 1- The Long Winters:

Last night couldn't have been more perfect. We showed up a little late, but the Southgate House in Newport, KY (ac cross the river from Cinnci) was empty, so we secured a couple spots right up at the stage. After a couple terrific sets from The Broken West and Say Hi To Your Mom, John Roderick and his band took the stage. Even with the drunken hecklers telling him to "take it all off," Roderick wasn't fazed and put on a tremendous show complete with songs off of each of this bands two full lengths and EP as well as a cover of The Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right to Party" and even a song by Chicago.

The coolest thing about Long Winters shows if you've never seen one is that they have no setlist. John takes requests from the crowd as well as from the band. He took both suggestions that Jon ("Rich Wife") and I (Ultimatum...the slow version) suggested, probably because we were so close. After the show, John Roderick stood in the back near the bar signing autographs and taking pictures. He sure lives up to his reputation as being one of indie rock's really good guys.

Tonight is Sufjan, which I'm insanely excited for. More on that after it happens.
